Winter Running Group

This group is intended for beginners and new runners who would like to begin a running practice with good form based on the principles of the Alexander Technique.  If you are receiving this email, you have expressed interest in this sort of running group or have likely participated in one or more of Malcolm Balk's Art of Running Workshops based on applying the Alexander Technique to running.

We will be working in the same way and will begin with drills for the first 15 minutes and then head into Central park for a run with the focus being on form.

The goal will be for the group to eventually run for 30-45 -minutes continuously while maintaining efficient form to increase enjoyment, endurance, and avoid injury.  The goal will be to run well, rather than to get from point A to B as quickly as possible.

Time:  2:30-3:30pm

Dates:  Jan 16, 23, 30, Feb 6, 13, 20, 27, March 5

Meeting place:  Indoor location on the Upper West Side near Central Park (TBA)  We'll move along into Central Park once the group has gathered.

Cost:  I'm offering three options.  I'd like to create a core group so that we can build each week, but also want there to be flexibility and a drop-in option. (You may pay by credit card by using the menu below or contact Lindsay to pay by cash or check.)

Option 1:  $136 for all 8 weeks, paid in advance ($17 per class)

Option 2:  $100 for 5 weeks, paid in advance ($20 per class - choose any 5 dates)

Option 3:  Drop-in pay per class day-of ($30 per class)

What to wear:  Here are some tips for dressing for cold weather.

-Dress for 15 degrees warmer than the actual temperature

-Wear layers, including a sweatshirt/jacket that you can tie around your waist

-Invest in a pair of lined running tights (The North Face makes good ones)

-Wear a thin, moisture-wicking under-layer made of either synthetic fabric or merino (If you go the merino route, check out Icebreakers - they also make hats and gloves)

-Wear synthetic or merino socks

-In colder weather, wear a lined jacket, a hat and gloves.

-Drink before and after rather than carrying water for shorter runs.  Your hands will stay warmer.
